DAISYCAKES: CLOSING ITS DOORS FRIDAY AUGUST 21
Dear DaisyCakes friends,
As we begin to look forward to the change in seasons and cooler weather, DaisyCakes will also be experiencing big changes. I want you to be the first to know that DaisyCakes will be closing its doors for a final time on Friday August 21st. The decision to close the shop has stemmed from a great deal of soul searching and I know that it is the right decision.
I happen to be one of the lucky ones who loves their work. It is a never ending learning experience and there are so many facets of pastry that I love. Yet, I have come to realize that the two parts of my field that continually excite me are recipe development and plated desserts. With the former, I have relished the challenge of creating gluten free dessert options that taste so good that you would be hard pressed to know they are gluten free. It has truly been an absolute blast and I have you to thank! Without the many requests for more gluten free options, we may have never developed Equal Measure and created a line of gluten free flour mixes. So, this is part of the business that I wish to grow and devote my energies.
The second facet of pastry that continually excites me is creating individual plated desserts. Along with developing the Equal Measure brand, I would like to bring to Durham a dessert tasting room. This dessert tasting room would be a special and unique experience, where you can enjoy desserts paired with wine or a chef’s three course dessert extravaganza! The desserts would feature the best ingredients that the seasons have to offer and some would even be paired with house made ice cream! It would be a place to visit after a movie at the Carolina or show at DPAC, or a place to come to make your day extra special. I am currently looking at spaces downtown and hope to bring this concept to Durham by year’s end.
What will become of the shop you wonder? Well, a new gem is coming to downtown Durham. Drum roll please…
Rise Biscuits and Donuts is coming!! Yes, that’s right…smack in the middle of your neighborhood! We couldn’t be happier to have such wonderful people take over our special space. And, for all of those gluten free friends out there, we have more good news! I have developed a gluten free donut mix for Rise to use in their shops! Some of you may have already sampled one of these delicious treats at DaisyCakes…yum!
So, although the closing of DaisyCakes is bittersweet, there is much to be excited about! Not only does it mark a new beginning for me, but it also means something new and exciting for you and our community. Thank you all again for everything and I hope to see you again soon!
W will honor all special event orders and gift certificates or we can provide a refund. On line orders will only be accepted with pick up dates of August 29 or earlier.
